Der Allukrainische Rat der Kirchen und Religionsgemeinschaften hat sich gegen eine Annahme der Istanbul-Konvention, einem Übereinkommen des Europarats zur Verhütung und Bekämpfung von Gewalt gegen Frauen und häusliche Gewalt, durch die Ukraine ausgesprochen. Die Religionsvertreter begründeten ihre ablehnende Haltung damit, dass die Konvention eine für das ukrainische Rechtssystem neue Terminologie, mit Begriffen wie „Gender“, „Genderidentität“ und „sexuelle Orientierung“ einführen würde.

Der Präfekt der vatikanischen Ostkirchenkongregation, Kardinal Leonardo Sandri, hat am 13. Juli 2017 in Charkiv die Unterkirche der Kathedrale geweiht. In orthodoxen Kreisen hat die Weihe einer Kirche der Ukrainischen Griechisch-Katholischen Kirche (UGKK) in der ostukrainischen Stadt scharfe Kritik ausgelöst. Das frühere Oberhaupt der Ukrainischen Griechisch-katholischen Kirche (UGKK), Lubomyr Kardinal Husar, ist tot. Husar verstarb am 31. Mai 2017 im 85. Lebensjahr nach schwerer Krankheit in Kiew. In Lviv, seiner Geburtsstadt, wo Husar auch viele Jahre als Großerzbischof der UGKK seinen Amtssitz hatte, wurde der 1. Juni zum Trauertag ausgerufen. Die Begräbnisfeierlichkeiten fanden am 5.
